The three day event, the first one to be held at a Premiership club within the Dragons region, takes place from October 30 to November 1 and will be attended by the WRU’s development coaches.

“This is the first time we’ve had one of these courses at a Premiership club which is great for us,” said Chris Cornford, WRU participation officer for the Dragons region.

“Bedwas have been as good as gold in helping to stage the event and we’ve got a good feeling about this one.”

The WRU’s rugby stars programme aims to improve the rugby skills and confidence of children aged between five and 14 with the Bedwas event running between 9am and 4pm on each of the three days.

The scheme is a new and exciting way of getting children of all ages and abilities to be active as well as encouraging them to participate in rugby-based games.

Every session is fun and interactive and aims to enhance and engage a child’s physical, psychological and social characteristics whilst maintaining the enjoyable aspect of the game.

With development in mind, each week the course leaders will practice and develop skills such as running with the ball, finding space, kicking, catching, scoring a try and much more.

Using the latest coaching methods and techniques, the WRU’s level one, two and three coaches will deliver the three day course at a cost of just £75. Places for a single day are limited to the first and second day only at a one-off cost of £25. There will also be a special appearance by a WRU player on the last day of the course.

The event, which has been promoted heavily in local primary schools in the area, is sure to fill up quickly.
