Ken Owens is relishing the Scarlets return to Heineken Cup action following a difficult autumn on international duty.

Owens is one of nine Wales stars that have returned to Parc y Scarlets this week following a brutal Dove Men Series whitewash.

Wales crashed to four straight defeats , with Owens coming off the bench against Samoa, New Zealand and Australia.

But he reckons the Scarlets’ must-win clash with Exeter Chiefs will be the perfect pick up.

“The Heineken Cup is a great competition and for many of us just what we need to re-focus the mind — it brings out the best in teams, players and supporters and always has a really distinctive feel to it on a match day,” said Owens.

“It may have been a difficult few weeks, but with the season as intense as it is, there’s no rest or time to look back.

“Exeter will come to us with a positive frame of mind. They may be newcomers to the Heineken Cup, but they’ve really built as a team and have put in some good wins in the Premiership this season.

“It will be good to get back to Parc y Scarlets and put our efforts and the frustrations back into our regional performances and win some pride back.”

The Scarlets must win to maintain their slim hopes of advancing from Pool Five alive but they face an Exeter Chiefs side buoyed by their 30-23 victory over London Wasps.
