Wales gave a solid performance against Italy on the weekend and played some sensational rugby.
It was exciting to observe many of the players penetrating through the spaces in gaining territory and allowing others to glide over the try-line. Wales put Italy under pressure from the start, which made it hard for Italy to play the expansive rugby they enjoy playing.
The set piece went well, especially the driven lineouts, this gave the backs an opportunity to dance on the Italian terrain.
The Welsh team looked confident throughout the game, this was visible when they played off their own try-line. This is encouraging, as former teams would have hoofed the ball up the park.
Teamwork was evident and the girls played for each other, and for that I couldn’t pick one player out for their performance as they all put in a gutsy performance. I hope the girls are inspired by this performance and their success and continue their unbeaten journey on Saturday against England.
I would like to see them move the ball into space quicker, I feel it sometimes can get caught up in the middle when there is space outside, when they have created overlaps. This will be a key factor against England who they play on Saturday at BT Sports Cardiff Arms Park. They need to take their chances when they have created the opportunity against a well drilled English side.
The girls also need to minimise their errors otherwise England will punish them greatly. The girls need to fine tune their execution to ensure that they create the opportunities they strive to achieve.
