He said: “We want to win the championship and you can’t do that by only winning three games. We’ve got to rely on other results now with England. That’s the target – we don’t want to come second or third, we want to win the championship.
“I guess the bonus point is some consolation actually, I didn’t think of that. I think the bonus point system is really good, it gives teams something to chase in the final few minutes.”
A Liam Williams try and eight points from the boot of Leigh Halfpenny looked to have been enough to end England’s winning run in Cardiff. And Warburton is hoping Wales learn to turn pressure into points in their remaining matches with Scotland, Ireland and Italy.
He said: “I’m sure there were certain instances where perhaps we gave away penalties or a bit of possession which has ultimately given them territory. And that was one of our big targets going into the game, to try and keep the penalties down as much as we could.
“It felt like an arm wrestle the whole way through. It was one of those games which if either team had lost that team would have been disappointed.
“We did have a lot of territory and possession in the second half, and if we could have converted that into a few more points then it could be a slightly different situation. I guess that’s the thing you learn from games like this.”
