PREVIEW: Dragons given license to thrill

Newport Gwent Dragons head coach Kingsley Jones has given his players a license to thrill when they travel to Galway to take on Guinness PRO12 champions Connacht.

The Men of Gwent suffered a 45-17 defeat when they travelled to Ireland last weekend to take on Munster. But they will be hoping for different fortunes this time around as they aim to arrest a run of four successive defeats.

But they face a Connacht side flying high after they snatched a 19-13 triumph against Cardiff Blues at BT Sport Arms Park last weekend. Jones has made three changes to the side that were defeated by table toppers Munster last weekend in Cork.

Tom Prydie comes in at full-back in place of Carl Meyer, while Elliot Dee replaces Rhys Thomas at hooker. Nick Crosswell partners Rynard Landman at lock in the final change. And Jones wants to see his side play with attacking intent in a bid to keep the heat on the teams above them in the table.

Dragons centre, Adam Warren, said: “Last year Connacht were brilliant and turned a lot of heads. Nobody expected them to win the league. This season maybe they have forced things a bit in their game, but when they get it right they score some good tries.

“It’s a big game for us because they are only just above us in the table. We haven’t been brilliant away but if we bring that attacking intent that we have at home I am confident we can do a job.

“Connacht is one of the places that teams don’t enjoy going but for us, it would be a great ground to get that away win to change things round for us. If we do that we can climb the table and put pressure on teams like the Blues above us by finishing the season strongly.”
