Bedlinog and Skewen, as well as Cardiff Met, who did not play on Saturday, all have enough points to have secured safety. Glamorgan Wanderers, however, will be looking over their shoulders nervously after they received a hammering at Newbridge, who now only need a single point from their final game against second-place Narberth to overhaul the Wanderers and stay up.
Newbridge would have been relegated with a defeat, but instead they stepped up to the plate, running in seven tries to thrash the Wanderers, 50-13. Doubles from Jordan Howells, Luke Morgan and Wes Cunliffe, a Scott Williams try, as well as six conversions from Simon Veall gave the home side a fighting chance of survival.
Bedlinog sealed their fate in spectacular style, scoring seven tries in a 49-17 drubbing of bottom side Dunvant. Luke Morgan and Aaron Harris both scored a brace each, while fourteen points from the boot of Dan Parry put the gloss on a thumping result.
Skewen earned their right to another season in the Championship but were made to sweat after grabbing a losing bonus-point in an 18-11 defeat to second-placed Narberth. Kevin James’ try eventually proved enough, despite Narberth missing two penalties in the dying minutes which would have sent Skewen down.
Champions Pontypool put in a virtuoso first-half performance at home against Tata Steel to celebrate their title, going in 43-7 at the break. But a magnificent second-half performance from fourth placed Steel pulled the score back to 55-34 in an entertaining tussle.
There was success for Newcastle Emlyn in their mid-table battle with Glynneath as they ran out 35-8 winners to secure a bonus-point and a fifth place finish in the Championship for this season.
