This year’s competition saw with over 80 teams, 200 coaches, and 1,500 players between the ages of 12 and 14 competing in 2 tiers of competition over 82 group games, 24 quarter finals, 12 semi-finals and 6 finals.
The competition also saw a brand new partnership with Cardiff Blues partner Cardiff and the Vale College, providing the headline sponsorship.
This year’s introduction of a second tier plate competition following the group stages has been a resounding success and has not only provided players with more than one opportunity to take part in the Blues Cup but has also resulted in us welcoming clubs to Cardiff Arms Parks finals day for the first time.
The Blues Cup is one of the largest Junior Club Competitions in Wales and fosters the promotion of rugby participation within the Region and ‘showcases’ the vibrancy of the junior club game.
The standard of rugby at the finals day did not disappoint with players, coaches, parents and supporters all showing their commitment and enthusiasm for the competition on the day.
The Blues Cup and Plate finals day incorporated several different departments and organisations including Rhys Williams and Matt Church of the Cardiff Blues, WRU Rugby Apprentices, WRU placement students, Community Coaches, WRU referees department and School club/Hub Officers.
