All Blacks flanker Sam Cane can’t wait to do battle with Wales’ back-row when the two sides meet in Saturday’s Under Armour Series clash.

Cane took on the British & Irish Lions with New Zealand in the summer and is renowned as one of the modern game’s greatest breakdown artists.

The tough-tackling forward is looking forward to running out in front of what will be a sold-out Principality Stadium crowd.

“I keep an eye on the Welsh loose forwards and it will be interesting to see what mix they go with,” Cane said.

“Like us, they have a well balanced trio who can compete at the breakdown, carry, defend, and create. It should be a tough battle.

“Justin Tipuric has a very strong all-round game. He has continuity, ball skills, and an ability to off-load; the core roles you would associate with an open-side. I don’t think we have ever played each other so if the opportunity comes about, I look forward to it.”

Tipuric is back in contention to feature against Steve Hansen’s All Blacks after recovering from a thigh injury. The Ospreys star has missed the clashes with Australia and Georgia.

New Zealand – the world’s best team – play their final game of a long campaign in Cardiff with Cane keen for Hansen’s men to end with victory.

“We are really keen to finish the season on the right note. It would be awesome to sit in the sheds on Saturday and feel really proud about how we went,” he said.

“It would make the next couple of months more enjoyable. The focus is on getting the week right and having as much enjoyment and fun as we can, bearing in mind it will be the last time this group will be together.

“If we can get that right, the performance will come.”

New Zealand were pushed hard by Scotland last week before emerging 22-17 winners.

“Every team we are up against are going out there to play the game of their lives,” Cane said.

“Maybe our attitude was just a fraction off against Scotland. It does not take much and we will be going out there this week and making sure we are exactly where we need to be.

“Saturday has nothing to do with the Lions. We are facing Wales, not a combination of four countries.

“It is always tough when we play Wales here, an amazing atmosphere that will be a new experience for a lot of the squad.

“We need to let them know it is one of the great stadiums to play at in world rugby.”
