The evening commenced with a scrum ready Power point presentation at the clubhouse from Nigel Way, WRU coach development officer for Gwent.
This was followed by a practical session from Women’s & Girls officer, Gwesyn Price-Jones, former Wales hooker Lloyd Burns and Chris Cornford, WRU Participation officer for Newport. Rugby Apprentice Scott Matthews from the Dragons academy was also on hand to assist.
The session dealt with issues and techniques surrounding core stability and scrum profile. Both coaches and players were taken through a series of new and innovative skills & Drills.
Nearly 50 coaches, staff and players attended and the evening concluded back at the clubhouse with a Q & A session conducted by Gwent Dragons community rugby manager Greg Woods on our current pathway structure and the game in Wales.
Lloyd Davies, Chairman of Monmouth RFC commented: “We are delighted with the support that we have received from the WRU Dragons coaching team over the course of the last 24 months. We qualified a further 10 Level 2 coaches this summer at the newly accredited WRU training facility at Monmouth Leisure Centre.
“We now have the most qualified coaching set up per age group in the region, which is great news for rugby players in the area.
“The Dragons CPD events are always excellent and the players and the coaches very much appreciate the effort that they put into each session.”
