The reigning champions ended their eight-match losing streak with a famous 16-6 victory over France.
And the Cardiff Blues wing reckons Wales can build on their Paris success to maintain their hopes of defending the Championship crown.
“The win in Paris will definitely free us up,” said Cuthbert.
“We have that confidence and can put the losing run behind us. Hopefully we can now carry on and play in the same way as last year’s Six Nations.
“Defending the Championship is definitely still possible but we can only take it one game at a time and this week is massively important.
“Morale is really high. The victory in Paris has made things a lot easier.
“The boys have been really up for training and it’s made for good preparation.
“Hopefully we are going to keep the winning run going now. The boys are really excited about this game.
“Momentum-wise we need a win in Italy on the back of the win in France.”
Cuthbert had limited chances to shine against Les Bleus but has been given a licence to roam in the Italian capital.
And he reckons Wales’ potent back three can strike fear into the heart of the Italian defence at Stadio Olimpico
“Rob gives me that free role to look for the ball,” said Cuthbert.
“I will be trying to get as much ball as possible to find those mist-matches against their forwards.
“Italy have a big front five and that’s where the majority of their play is built. So it’s important that we make the most of our chances and counter-attacks.
“With the likes of George (North) and Leigh (Halfpenny) in the back-three, hopefully we will be running at them in space and able to score some tries.”
Ryan Jones will captain Wales against the Azzurri, with Sam Warburton restricted to a place on the bench.
And Cuthbert reckons Wales will benefit from having several prominent leaders throughout the team.
“Too much is made of the captaincy issue. I’m glad they are both in the match-day squad,” added Cuthbert.
“Ryan is the captain on the field and Sam is usually captain when he is starting.
“It is good for the team, especially the younger boys, to have that leadership on and off the field.
“Ryan offers his way of captaining the side, like Sam does. They are both good leaders.
“Sam has led us really well over the last couple of years and I have enjoyed playing under him.
“Ryan is a bit older and has that bit more experience. He is more of a fatherly figure.
“Sam is a close mate of mine and his captaincy is more within himself – he leads on the field, as does Ryan – they are similar I guess.
“Just because Sam is on the bench, it doesn’t mean he has lost the captaincy. It is just the way the team is playing at the moment, Ryan is captain.
“We have captains all over the field. Jamie (Roberts) captains our defence – everyone has a role and a say in the team.”
