Skills Hubs a great success

WRU Player Development Officers are working closely with the Heart of Wales Junior District Association to provide opportunities for players to participate in skills hubs throughout the district.

The ethos of the skills hubs is maximum participation, centred around the WRU skills curriculum which covers the key fundamentals of passing, handling, contact and evasion.

The WRU Heart of Wales skills hubs are run throughout the year in Cynon Valley, Merthyr Tydfil and South Powys with all respective clubs receiving an invite for players to register online. This creates a data base of players which can be tracked throughout the year, leading into talent identification programmes at U14 level.

Easter’s skills hub was held a Cyfarthfa High School, Merthyr Tydfil. More than 70 players braved the freezing conditions to attend the day. Merthyr College sports students delivered a running session focused on technique followed by evasion games aimed at improving athletic development.

Other activities included ball skills, pre contact skills, and a series of games delivered by WRU Coaches. These events are becoming increasingly popular and provide a great opportunity for both players and coaches.

The Next skills hub will be in June with specific details to follow.
