The Wales man teams up with international colleague Jamie Roberts as one of four centres in Warren Gatland’s squad.
He says one of his first Lions’ memories is of Jenkins kicking goals on the 1997 tour of South Africa.
Former Welsh fly-half Jenkins, who is a key member of Gatland’s coaching staff this time around, helped the Lions to a famous 2-1 series win that year.
And Davies, who will be on his first Lions tour, will be hoping he can help the Lions to repeat that kind of success.
“My first Lions memory is probably in 1997 when Jenks was kicking every goal possible,” he said.
“Growing up, I watched all of the Lions’ series from then on.
“It’s the pinnacle of anyone’s rugby career, you hear people say that and to be a part of it is very special.
“I just can’t wait to get started and hopefully I’ll get some game time out there.”
The Lions squad are training at the WRU National Centre of Excellence, Vale Resort, Hensol this week in preparation for their first game of the tour against the Barbarians in Hong Kong on June 1.
And with Davies joined by a plethora of attacking options for the upcoming tour, he says he is enjoying linking up with some of the squad’s star names.
“There are some exciting runners there,” he said.
“You’ve got the likes of George and Cuthy and they’re extremely dangerous. Hopefully I’ll be a part of a very exciting back line. It’s exciting times.
“To get the chance to play alongside Brian O’Driscoll and Manu Tuilagi, I can’t wait really. They’ve played very well this year so I’m looking forward to that opportunity.”
Captained by Wales flanker Sam Warburton, the Lions squad met up in London on Monday and are training in south Wales this week before moving on to Ireland.
It all forms part of Gatland’s preparation for the tour and Davies says the first match against the Barbarians is crucial.
“It’s about how we start the tour,” he added.
“It’s a big ask and it’s going to be difficult but I’m sure we’ll be well prepared and it will come down to small margins.
“The best prepared team will win and Warren will make sure we are ready.”
