The RBS 6 Nations Champions beat Eddie Jones’ Japan 22-18 in Osaka and face the second and final test against the Cherry Blossoms in Tokyo this weekend.
With Japan targeting the series and coming in on the back of six test matches, Edwards reckons there is a lot Wales can take from the victory.
“It was a tremendous victory,” said Wales’ assistant coach.
“A lot of lads in the team hadn’t played a lot of test match rugby and hadn’t played in a number of weeks and factor in the heat and humidity, it was a good result.
“We were playing a team that have played six matches recently but we got on with the job, showed a lot more fluidity in the second half and showed a lot of fitness in those conditions.
“There is no doubt they (Japan) came in at half time and wanted to kick on to victory but we battled it out and we have a lot to be proud of.
“Everyone knows when these lads put the red shirt on they grow about three inches and put on about a stone and become inspired and that was the case on Saturday.
“We spoke at half-time, we made slight alternations and it worked. The try we scored was as good as you will see, it was fantastic attacking rugby.
“We always seem to improve as tournaments go on, there’s no guarantee of that on Saturday but that’s what we are planning and hopefully that will be the case.
“If we get the win that will be six games in a row and that’s pretty special.”
