The tighthead prop already boasts a glittering CV including four RBS 6 Nations titles, including three Grand Slams, four league titles, an Anglo-Welsh Cup title and two British & Irish Lions tours – including this year’s triumphant Test series against Australia.
But he still craves glory on the biggest stage of all and is confident he will still be the cornerstone of the Welsh pack.
“I’ll be all right,” said Jones.
“It’s going to be a long two years, but we just have to keep building.”
Wales’ journey to the World Cup is well underway and they will be buoyed by their performances on the Lions tour of Australia.
An astonishing 16 Welshmen were selected for the tour, with 10 featuring in the third Test 41-16 triumph over the Wallabies.
Warren Gatland’s men face South Africa, Argentina, Tonga and Australia in November but Jones remains cautious.
“It’s a totally different ball game when you are playing for Wales,” added Jones.
“It’s always tough after the Lions tour and there’ll obviously be a massive comedown from the tour, especially as we won the series.
“We could have a terrible run during the autumn. But we’ll back ourselves against any team if we play the way we can.
“South Africa first up is always going to be a challenge but, if we can replicate the form of the Lions, we will go well.
“We have gone pretty close to beating South Africa and New Zealand on previous occasions and it would be massive to beat those guys.
“We’ve all come back from the Lions very confident and on a high. It was huge, something I can live off for the rest of my life.
“I am so pleased to have done it and it’s something for me and my family to look back on but there’s a few more things I want to complete before I hang up my boots.”
