Warren Gatland’s side were 40-6 winners at the Millennium Stadium this afternoon, condemning the Pumas to their eighth consecutive defeat.
Two tries in each half saw Wales emerge as comfortable winners, scrum half Mike Phillips getting the ball rolling with the first try of the day.
George North added a superb individual score for Wales’ second, a try which secured a comfortable 23-3 half time advantage.
In the second half, man of the match Toby Faletau and replacement Ken Owens crossed the white wash to complete the scoring. Leigh Halfpenny added gloss to the victory by kicking 20 points from the tee.
It completed a thoroughly satisfying afternoon for Wales and Warburton. Here’s what the Wales skipper had to say at the final whistle.
“With 15 or 20 minutes to go we still kept pressing and wanted to get more scores – that was really positive to see.
“Our target from a defensive point of view was no tries, we went four games in the Six Nations without conceding a try and we wanted to get back to that. We achieved it which is great news.
“I think we gelled a bit last week – it’s good to go through an international match and get to that intensity again. I thought we had a good opening 20 minutes, it was extremely quick but we didn’t start like that last week.
“Playing South Africa primed us really well, they’re a similar team to Argentina. Credit to South Africa, they were a quality outfit last week but we definitely improved this week.
“I was walking back to the half way line and I was thinking about the last time we scored a driving line-out with Wales. I can’t remember, I think it may have been Scotland going back a year or two. It was great to do it against Argentina. Maul defence was a big thing for us and we stopped that at source but to get one against them was very satisfying.
“The stat that we hadn’t won in an autumn series since 2009 took me by surprise when I heard it. That was something we definitely wanted to get rid of and it’s nice to get a win and build some momentum going into Tonga.
“I want to keep playing for Wales every week and the priority has to be to make sure we keep winning. We’ve worked hard to get this win against Argentina and it’s a potential banana skin next week and we don’t want to slip up. We want to go into the last game with two wins in a row.
“Gethin Jenkins is a legend, I wouldn’t say that to his face but he is a Welsh legend. To get 100 caps in modern day rugby is incredible, especially in the front row. Hopefully we’ll see a smile on his face this afternoon.
“I thought Cory Allen was great. He showed a great line break, an accurate pass and 13 is a difficult position to play, especially in defence.
“But I thought it was a very mature performance for his age and I’m delighted he’s got his first Welsh cap.”
