On the eve of Wales’ RBS 6 Nations game against France, Owen Sheers read extracts from the new chapters in his book covering last year’s Championship winning campaign to guests of the Institute of Welsh Affairs.
After having spent a year with the squad the poet and novelist gave an intimate glimpse into the workings of the Welsh team at a fundraiser for the Institute of Welsh Affairs.
Sponsored by the Welsh Rugby Union, Brains brewery and Peter’s Pies, guests also got a special opportunity to experience the crackle of a build up to the big match.
Owen Sheers said: “I published the first edition of Calon at the end of my year with the Welsh team when the tour of Australia culminated.
“After I left them, the team won the Six Nations and many of them went on to be a part of the successful British & Irish Lions tour, again to Australia. I saw this paperback edition as an opportunity to finish the story and to finish it off with that fantastic game against England and then the Lions tour was brilliant.
“The story of rugby changes so quickly and there are already new players coming into the squad from when I spent time with them.
“This paperback version is smaller but has more in it.”
