Merthyr kept up their march towards the Swalec Division 1 East title with a confident 45-10 victory over Rumney. The home team ran in 8 tries as they consolidated their position at the top of the league while the visitors remain stuck in mid-table after a disappointing afternoon.

Ystrad Rhondda took advantage of Heol y Cyw’s game being called off to move up to second in the table. They romped to an 8-50 win over Nelson for a bonus point victory but still remain well behind Merthyr in the race for the championship.

At the other end of the table Bedlinog’s hunt for a third league win of the season goes on after they were held to a 16-16 draw by Penallta. The home team were unable to capitalise on Rumney’s win and move closer to the top five and Bedlinog slip further behind Gilfach Goch, who won against Rhydyfelin.

The league’s second-bottom side picked up a 15-5 victory which moves them further away from the danger of relegation.

Treorchy moved up to eighth with a hard-fought 25-14 win at home to Glamorgan Wanderers. The visitors managed two tries but could not do enough to keep Treorchy down and their three tries were enough to secure the win.
