Wales wing back for Dragons

Wales wing Hallam Amos will return to action when Newport Gwent Dragons do battle with Edinburgh on Thursday night in their re-arranged RaboDirect PRO12 fixture.

The match was postponed on February 9 due to a waterlogged Rodney Parade pitch and the new date has meant Amos can now make his 33rd Dragons appearance after missing two months of the season with an ankle injury.

Dragons director of rugby Lyn Jones is without centre Ashley Smith, though, after he hurt his ankle while scoring in their draw with Zebre, so 19-year-old Jack Dixon comes into the side.

Edinburgh have themselves made two changes to the XV that slipped to an away defeat against Treviso last weekend, with captain Mike Coman returning after missing the Italian trip with a neck strain and Sam Hidalgo-Clyne coming in for Carl Bezuidenhout as Jack Cuthbert switches to the wing.

The teams are currently tied on thirty points and are just a place apart in the table, with the Dragons having played a game more. But both sides have shown disappointing form in 2014, with just one league win apiece: Edinburgh earned a hard-fought 31-25 success against the Ospreys at Meggetland and the Dragons edged out Glasgow 24-23 at home in Round 15.

Jones’ men have won their last two matches against Scottish opponents, beating Glasgow home and away earlier this campaign, and they will be boosted by the news that veteran lock Ian Gough will rejoin the region, along with tight-head prop David Young, at the end of the season.

The Scotsmen, who have today announced that second row Sean Cox will move to London Irish in the summer, are one of only three sides yet to record an away victory in the PRO12 this season, with their only win on the road in the competition since December 2012 coming at Zebre last March.

Edinburgh have won their last two matches with the Dragons, but both games were played at Murrayfield. Alan Solomons’ side have not been victorious at Rodney Parade since May 2006 and can only boast one win in Wales since 2009.
