Twelve months on after enjoying a successful and undefeated season and also scoring a record breaking 1,000 + points overall, the team – nicknamed The Starch – has clinched yet another league title and only their second promotion in over 10 years.
The Swansea based side have carried off the SWALEC Division 4 West title with 100 points, winning all but two of the league games that they’ve played this season.
Gowerton Club Captain James Hedley said: “It’s an amazing feeling to win our second promotion in two seasons. We added some quality players to our squad this season and developed areas of our game like our line, which has really paid off for us. We are a good enough team to compete at a higher level next season and we are very confident looking ahead.”
Coach Dean Evans said: “It’s a fantastic feeling to win our second promotion in two seasons. It was a step up and the boys have met the challenge really well. The squad has really matured well as rugby players, as they are a young side. Former Neath player Gareth King has been a class act for us this season and club captain James Hedley has led from the front.”
WRU Board Member Brian Fowler added: “I’d like to congratulate Gowerton RFC on the success they have achieved this season. Many of their current squad members have come through from the junior ranks of their club, which is excellent as they are developing and nurturing local talent.”
