The experienced Caerphilly team, based largely on the successful Penallta Youth team, had too much pace and power for their determined opponents.

Pembrokeshire District opened the scoring with a well struck penalty by scrum half Luke Rogers. That early score by the West Walians stirred Caerphilly District into action. Three tries were scored by the valley’s team in quick succession.

Captain Jack Candy used his strength to burst over the Pembrokeshire line. He was quickly followed by centre Lewis Barnett who finished off an excellent combined move between backs and forwards and a try from winger Elliot Keep. With fellow winger Arwel Robson striking the ball sweetly to kick three conversions.

In the 28th minute of the first half Elliot Keep ran well for his second try, again converted by Robson, to establish a 28-3 lead for the Cup holders. On the stroke of half time Pembrokeshire showed their skill, and their determination by launching a sweeping move that ended with a well deserved try.

At half time Caerphilly District lead by 28 points to 8 points. After five minutes of the second half Caerphilly strengthened their position when first a sweeping all team attack ended in an excellent try in the corner for Robson followed by winger Keep, his hat trick try. Robson converted both of these tries with excellent kicks.

Pembrokeshire came back into the Game and showed a fine appetite for the battle and shackled Caerphilly for the rest of the match.

The Final produced some high quality rugby. The Caerphilly District team is a well honed unit who deservedly held onto the Cup they won for the first time last season
