The Scarlets inside back reckons having James Hook in their ranks is a huge advantage, and Shingler has relished the chance to link up with the 75-times capped playmaker.
“I’m hoping James Hook will have a few tricks and out the backdoor passes up his sleeve,” said Shingler.
“It is difficult as the two sides have the same calls set-up so we have been trying to change a few names as communication is a massive part of rugby and calling plays Jamie (Roberts) and Jon (Davies) know about would be tricky.
“But hopefully a few off-the-cuff moves can test them. That is what Neil Jenkins has told us – back your ability and pull out all the stops.”
The 22-year-old will be hoping to put on a show that catches the eye of the Wales coaches and earn himself a call-up to Wales’ two-Test tour of South Africa.
Shingler realises that he has an outside-chance of making the trip after an injury hit season at the Scarlets, but he insists the best way to boost his own hopes is by ensuring the Possibles band together quickly and cause a shock at the Liberty Stadium.
“It is about the collective. If we perform well as a unit then that will bring the best out of us,” added Shingler.
“If Hooky plays well it will help me, and if I am putting Cory (Allen) in holes it will reflect well on me. We have to play as a unit or we will get torn to pieces. The team comes first.”
Wales’ first senior trial for 14 years has caught the imagination of the Welsh public and is expected to be sold out by the 8pm kick-off at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium tomorrow night.?
