Morgan started his first game in a senior Wales jersey in the non-cap clash with the Eastern Province Kings on Tuesday night having been the standout inclusion in Warren Gatland’s 32-man touring party.
The 22-year-old came on as a half-time replacement for the Possibles in the recent Wales senior trial match and he took his fine form with him from Swansea to South Africa as he repeated the feat from the off against Carlos Spencer’s Currie Cup outfit.
Morgan was one of the brightest sparks in the 34-12 win at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium despite playing at full back rather than fly half and his performance has led to calls for a spot among the replacements against the Springboks in two days’ time. But, while he would love to have more than a watching brief against the Boks in Durban, Morgan admits that simply being in South Africa is more than he could have imagined.
“To be honest, for now I am just happy to have played in the trial and to have played in the game against the Kings,” said Bristol-bound Morgan.
“Hopefully I have put my hand up for some sort of involvement on the bench, but whatever will be, will be. If I get picked, I get picked. If I don’t, I don’t. I’m just happy to be a part of the tour.
“I could never have hoped to be here. My family are here to see me and all my mates have been texting me their support. It sounds like they are having one hell of a holiday but they are really pleased for me.
“It’s brilliant. I had a tear in my eye when we were running out against the Kings. It’s every little boy’s dream to pull that Welsh jersey on and to do it is just the most amazing feeling.”
