The Colwyn Bay whistler will handle the clash between Australia and Sri Lanka to get his campaign underway before taking control of the game between Papua New Guinea and Malaysia – two teams in the same pool as Gareth Williams’ Wales side.
Thomas will then finish day one refereeing the clash between Kenya and Trinidad & Tobago.
Defending champions New Zealand begin the tournament as firm favourites, having won the Commonwealth Games Sevens crown on each of the previous four occasions it has been contested.
