Macauley Cook has warned the Ospreys they are in for a derby day dog-fight against an improving Cardiff Blues.

The blind-side flanker scored a try to help claw back a 14-point deficit at Connacht this weekend to earn a last-ditch draw.  And the 22-year-old reckons the only way is up for his region who face a trip to table-topping rivals Ospreys on Sunday.

He said: “I think we are nearly there. We are really close to turning a corner. We will take those two points and build on that now going into next week. It’s obviously a big one. The Ospreys are top of the league. It’s a massive clash, obviously a derby and all the boys will be up for that. We are getting there and I think it’s going to click soon and we will get some big results.”

Two converted tries at the death saw  Mark Hammett’s men snatch a last-ditch 24-24 draw in Galway. Tries from Kieran Marmion and Nathan White looked to have secured the four points for the hosts after going in at half-time locked at 10-10. But Cook’s 70th-minute touchdown gave the Blues hope before Sam Hobbs squirmed over – Rhys Patchell held his nerve to land the levelling conversion.

The stalemate in Ireland ended a three match losing run for the Cardiff side whilst the Ospreys battling victory away to Zebre maintained their 100 percent early season record.  And Cook has urged his teammates to find their cutting edge if they are to cause a derby upset in Swansea on Sunday.

He said: “Going forward, we have got to tie up those loose bits. We blew a few chances in the first half. We got ourselves into good positions, but we just couldn’t finish them off. And we can’t come out after half-time, switch off and concede two tries like that and expect to win the game.

“We did really well to come back considering the position we were in. We stuck to our structures at the end, we went through loads of phases, kept the ball well and ended up coming away with a draw.”
