Kidwelly, currently riding high in 1 West, would have expected to beat the Plascrug outfit who are mid-table in 2 West but the side from Gwendraeth Valley were taken by surprise with a superb second half response from the home pack who got on top of the visitors to pave the way for a well-deserved victory.
Aber fly half Jason Rees opened the scoring with a long range penalty but the home side were 7-3 down at the break after conceding a converted penalty try.
Kidwelly moved up a gear in the early stages of the second half when full back Dafydd Lewis bundled his way over the try-line.
Rees then reduced the deficit when he touched down for a converted try before perseverance by the Aber pack paid dividends when Lee Gower pounced to score. Rees’ excellent side-line conversion put his side 17-12 in front to add Kidwelly to two other Division 1 scalps Aberystwyth have claimed this week.
Elsewhere Penlan, who are currently fourth in 2 West, raised a few eyebrows with their 20-10 victory over Gowerton who are two places above them in the same division.
In the SWALEC Bowl Nantymoel have earned a home tie against Bryncethin after beating Barry 19-27. Barry had previously been unbeaten in 3 East Central A.
