One or two early forward charges showed promise but the backline opportunities were often squandered and consequently Seven Sisters gained in confidence. Sarah Williams and Ceris Davies worked hard amongst the forwards with the copybook tackling of Emma Edwards a feature throughout. For Seven Sisters winger Lindsey Drewett showed a hunger with her strong and direct running.
The stalemate was finally broken on the stroke of halftime when from a scrum on the half way line a quick ball saw stand-off Malen Williams collect and set off on a looping run that saw her outpace every opponent to score in the corner.
Caernarfon’s start to the second half could not have been better for following pressure from a Seven Sisters lineout take the ball was regained and fed wide for Hannah Hughes to run in at the corner. However they were soon back on defensive duties following a Rachel Rees break and when support arrived, flanker Jess Blake freed herself from the melee to power over despite the attention of numerous defenders. Rees added the conversion to reduce the lead to three points and put increased pressure on the Cofis.
However they responded as the visitors began to tire. Centre Alaw Davies gathered a clearance kick out of defence and counterattacked with venom, weaving her way to the try line for another converted try. Next in line was a fine inside pass from Hannah Hughes to powerful charging Jess Kavanagh resulting in her reaching the try line without a hand being laid on her.
Seven Sisters however were gallant to the end with a number of forward charges bringing them close. Megan Llewelyn succeeded to prevent one certain five pointer but pressure was maintained at scrum time with standoff Rachel Rees finally breaking through the cover to score despite a wardrobe malfunction as a result of the full back’s attempted tackle. Suitably attired, she also slotted the conversion.
With time running out, there was one final try for Jess Kavanagh when she was able to see daylight from the back of a ruck and power her way to the line for yet another converted try thanks to the trusted boot of Malen Williams.
Caernarfon’s home matches have been minimal during the season so it was nice to see Seven Sisters honouring the fixture and competing to the very end.
