In their penultimate game of the season, Carmaerthen Quins travel to the Talbot Athletic ground for the second week in succession.
Last Saturday they lost 22-20 to Bridgend in the semi-final of the SWALEC Cup whilst this week they return to Premiership League action against the Wizards.
Last season the Quins did the double over Aberavon with the hosts escaping relegation by securing a bonus point in the final game of the season. When the two teams met in the pre-christmas fixture at Carmarthen Park Aberavon were in bottom position in the league and the Quins were second.
Any thoughts of a comfortable home victory that day were quickly dispelled by Aberavon who were deserved victors by 23-9.
Many feel, rightly or wrongly, that this fixture signalled a downturn in the Quins fortunes for this season, while Aberavon have enjoyed a more productive 2015.
At present Carmarthen lie in 6th place in the league on 54 points (11 wins) with Aberavon in 7th on 46 points (10 wins). A Quins victory will see them finish in the top half of the Premiership, whereas a loss could ‘possibly’ result in them finishing in the bottom half, with just Pontypridd left to play. No one associated with the Quins will want to see that happening after such a promising first half of the season.
This fixture will be a tough ask after recent results but it is an opportunity for the players to finish the season on a high note.
