The West Wales region will clash with the Newport Gwent Dragons at the Millennium Stadium this Saturday in the third instalment of the regional showcase. And it is still all to play for for Wayne Pivac’s men, as they bid to secure their place at European rugby’s top table.
But they face a Dragons side fresh from a Challenge Cup defeat, determined to finish their season with a flourish. And Williams reckons both sides will give it all they’ve got in the capital this weekend.
He said: “The Dragons have been playing well, they will be disappointed with their performance against Edinburgh last weekend so they will be raring to go. We have got a couple of things to put right as well — they will be coming out all guns blazing and so will we.
“Watching the games on the weekend, they are massive occasions involving the best teams. It is something we have to make sure we are in again. It won’t be the same if we are not in the Champions Cup. Clermont is one of the best atmospheres I have played in at club level and Toulon this season was the same.”
The Scarlets lie in seventh place, level on points with Connacht, who occupy the final Champions Cup spot. The Irish province face a tough home test against league leaders Glasgow Warriors, and Pivac will want to see his side pounce if they fail to claim victory.
“We spoke before we played Zebre in our last game about how important these games are and if we win them by a point or two, it doesn’t really matter. The run-in is going to be tough, but it is definitely a goal we can reach,” Williams concluded.
