With a Great Britain team now confirmed for next year’s Olympics in Rio, all eyes will be on team selection for Team GB. With places up for grabs, Williams is hoping his players can rise to the occasion this weekend but with this series doubling up as an Olympic regional qualifier, competition will be fierce and he is fully aware of the challenges ahead.
“The nations vying for those Olympic spots will be eager to get off to a positive start in Moscow. It may be a case that some of the boys coming in to our environment can force their way in to World Series contention and have an opportunity to stake a claim for a prestigious Great Britain squad place for Rio,” he added.
Williams said the series gives him an excellent opportunity to try and increase the depth for World Series duty.
“This European Series sees a strong representation from the Principality Premiership which continues to produce players with the ability to develop to international and regional competitions. These tournaments act as an ideal opportunity to expose players to International 7’s.
“The group have been working closely together, with the majority featuring for the Welsh Charitables success in the Old Pens, and in the first leg of the ever growing GB 7’s Series under the guidance of Chris Ower. The GB 7’S Series offers a great breeding ground for developing both playing and coaching talent in the abbreviated game with Welsh players and coaches featuring for the Charitables, Samurai, Forces Exiles, and the Wailers.”
