Lee hoping to give Aussies a scare

Prop Samson Lee is hoping to give Australia a fright up-front after staying at Wales’ hotel of horrors.

Wales teammate Dan Lydiate is convinced he woke in the night to see the ghost of Henry VIII at their Oatlands Park Hotel base. Lee, however, is less certain that a ghoul is stalking the corridors, but he is ready to give Australia a scare up-front.

He said: “A few boys think they’ve seen a ghost but I’m not sure they actually have. I think it’s best to stay away from room 1313. Some of them reckon they have seen Henry VIII. It has been discussed over food and stuff like that and Dan Lydiate isn’t happy about it.

“He actually thinks he’s seen a ghost but I think he’s dreaming. He had a bang on the head and that might be the problem.

“I thought we improved a lot in the scrum in that second-half against Fiji, we have to concentrate on Australia and get things right.

“We’ve got to get our scrum right from last week. We’ve just got to work on our little things which are very fixable. At the end of the day the scrum is just about who pushes the hardest. Different things go on in the scrums like people’s angles but at the end of the day it’s about who wants to push the most.”

Saturday’s Twickenham clash will decide who tops Rugby World Cup Pool A after the Wallabies dumped hosts England out of the tournament last weekend. The victor at Rugby HQ will face the runner-up of Pool B, which could still be either South Africa, Scotland or Japan.

Australia showcased their scrummaging prowess against the Red Rose, and Lee reckons it’s down to their forwards coach and former Argentina front-rower Mario Ledesma.

He said: “They have been working hard over the last few years with their new forwards coach, Mario Ledesma, which has helped their scrum improve. They are just getting back to the basics in the scrum and they’re going really well at the moment.  It’s much more of a contest now.

“You just have to go back to basics and get your height right to win the pushing competition. I’d agree that the scrum is less technical, the hits have been taken away so there is no excuses for dropped scrums.”
