Warren Gatland’s men scored nine tries in a 67-14 triumph over the Azzurri to earn second spot in the Six Nations standings. But Wales face a sterner test this summer, as they travel down-under for three test matches against the world champion All Blacks.
It has been 62 years since Wales have beaten the number one ranked test side, but Biggar is sensing an opportunity.
He said: “”It’s the toughest test you can imagine but we spoke in the changing rooms about the opportunity this summer. It would be one of the greatest achievements this team has ever produced if we won down there.
“We have three cracks at the whip in New Zealand and it will be interesting to see how they respond to losing a lot of great players. But it’s not like we’re going to play a Mickey Mouse team without the likes of McCaw and Carter. They are world champions and beating them would absolutely make up for finishing second in the Six Nations.”
But Biggar will return the Ospreys’ fold to boost their top six chances before linking up with Wales again. The kicking supremo, who notched 54 points in this season’s competition, will be facing a number of his Wales colleagues this weekend in a derby clash with the Scarlets. And Biggar is relishing the chance to play against his international colleagues.
He said: “It’s tough for players at the moment, it’s already been a long season. We’ve been playing every week with the regions as well, its come at a good time though. Hopefully the crowd will be good on Saturday and you are playing against boys you’ve been in camp with all week.
“It’s easy to get yourself up for a game like that rather than, no disrespect, Edinburgh away. It’s come at a good time to keep momentum, and it’s a big game, because if we lose, it’s season over. Hopefully we can do a good job, and it will be good to play against the boys I’ve been in camp with.”
