Bedlinog face Penallta in the Plate final at the Principality Stadium on Sunday and their 18-10 win at Nantyglo edged them five points clear at the summit after tries by Tom Evans and Luke Morgan. They have two games in hand on second-placed Penallta and three on third-placed Ynysybwl.
Ynysybwl fell 39-23 at Rhydyfelin despite tries from Ollie Rees and Nathan Ellis, while Penallta narrowly lost to Nelson 16-13. It was a crushing blow after their Plate semi-final heroics last weekend.
The SSE Swalec Bowl finalists Burry Port warmed-up for their big day out with an 11th league win of the season with a hard-fought 18-10 victory over Nantgaredig. That triumph kept them in touch in the Division 3 West B title race with Tumble and Lampeter Town, while their opponents on Sunday, unbeaten Taffs Well, had a weekend off.
Ystrad Rhondda ran in nine tries as they thumped Llanishen 64-10 in Division 1 East Central thanks to a hat-trick from wing Jack Lawthom. But that still wasn’t enough to close the gap on runaway leaders Glamorgan Wanderers, who beat top three challengers Rhiwbina 38-22.
At the other end of the table, Gilfach Goch couldn’t repeat last weeks’ heroics as they were well-beaten 37-7 by Heol y Cyw.
In Division 1 North, Huw Williams’ injury-time try made sure Pwllheli kept up the pressure on leaders Nant Conwy with a bonus-point win at Bethesda. There were three tries, but no bonus-point, in a 36-31 victory that leaves the reigning champions 14 points behind Nant Conwy with three games in hand.
Ammanford moved well clear of third place Trebanos in Division 1 West Central, winning 30-20. Rhys Thomas and Steffan Lewis crossed for the home team with Chris Jones adding 10 points from the boot.
Centre Andy Owens was the key for Ammanford in the win. His second try bagged the bonus-point and there were also tries for Emyr Price and Iwan Mainwaring.
In Division One West, Tenby failed to claim their first league win of the season as the lost 32- 22 to Kidwelly at Parc Stephens. The home team’s tries came through Robin Williams, John Williams, Alex Davies, Rich Williams and Gareth Rees.
Full-back Dan Colley and Sam James replied for the Seasiders. James also added the points from the boot.
