Three late tries gave Bedwas a comfortable but flattering 31-5 victory as Bedlinog fought hard to give the home side a good workout in a friendly match played in difficult conditions.

Heavy rain and a strong wind made for an interesting game but both sides worked hard without troubling the scoreboard until just before the half time break when Geraint Edmunds was driven over in the corner. James Dixon’s conversion into the strong wind went wide.

The second half followed a similar pattern with the visitors scoring a similar try to the home side with again the conversion being unsuccessful.

Former Bedlinog favourite Robson Blake crossed to reclaim the lead for Bedwas, again unconverted but the visitors continued to battle hard.

The game changed midway through the second half as a Bedlinog forward was sin binned for a ruck offence. Bedwas took advantage of the extra man as prop forwards Dan Preece and Matthew Pettit both crossed for tries, the latter converted by Dixon.

Pat Lewis’ try in the corner and Dixon’s excellent conversion just before the final whistle completed the scoring.

Bedwas continue the build up to the new season with one more friendly fixture as Glamorgan Wanderers visit the Bridgefield next Saturday (27th August), 2-30pm kick off.
