Davies could have had a hat-trick after reaching the line in the opening five minutes only to lose the ball in the act of scoring and newly promoted Dunvant’s cause wasn’t helped in a tight game by picking up three yellow cards.
The home side had wing Adam Williams-Parry back in the team and his three second-half penalties looked to have steered the hosts home as they turned a 16-14 interval deficit into a 23-16 lead. Skewen scrum half Anthony Buselli had kicked three penalties of his own and converted wing Matthew Billet’s try in the first half.
Skewen cut the gap to two points with a driving line-out try from flanker Richard Davies moments after Dunvant’s replacement scrum half Aled Davies had become the latest player to be sent to the bin and Buselli stepped up with three minutes to go to beak home hearts, and ruin Davies’ centenary celebrations, to kick his fourth penalty to snatch a one point win.
Cardiff Met held onto their unbeaten start to the season, but left it late to get the better of city rivals Glamorgan Wanderers. The visitors made the short trip to Cyncoed and looked to have secured a first win since clinching promotion to the Championship thanks to centre Declan Williams’ breakaway try.
That was until the students mustered a final play and drove over from a line-out drive in the final minute to clinch a narrow 14-13 win and third place in the table. Tata Steel held onto top spot with an emphatic 57-10 victory over Glynneath, while Pontypool remain hot on their heels thanks to a stunning one-man demolition of Newbridge.
Hooker Alex Watkins scored five tries in a comfortable 50-17 victory at Pontypool Park. Newbridge took the lead through the boot of Simon Veale, and were only 17-10 behind at the beak, but that was before the Pontypool pack and the guidance of former Wales and Ospreys fly-half Matthew Jones took charge.
Nathan Brooks, Marc Thorley and Josh Hayward also crossed for Pooler while Kieran Meek and Jones added five conversions to make it three wins in a row at the start of the Championship campaign.
Bedlinog claimed their first win of the season with a 22-17 success over fellow Mid District side Beddau. The visitors led 10-0 at half-time, but the Foxes won the second half comprehensively to take the win by 27-17.
Narberth moved into fourth place in the table thanks to a 23-13 win at Newcastle Emlyn. The home side took the lead through a try by centre Rhys Schiavone and his midfield partner Tomi Jones added a second after the break to go with a penalty from outside half Nico Setaro.
But the Otters were too strong as they picked up their second win of the season. Hooker Dan Smith, scrum half Rhys Lane and centre Liam Hutchings scored their tries, outside half Jonathan Rogers kicked a penalty and wing Nick Gale chipped in with a conversion and penalty.
