Two of the in-form teams in women’s club rugby meet as Swansea Women’s RFC look to make it four from four when they face Caernarfon this afternoon.

The All Whites, captained by Wales international Siwan Lilicrap and with a number of other internationals within their ranks including the likes of Adi Taviner, Amy Evans and Kiera Bevan, along with a host of Ospreys players, were only established as a women’s side in the summmer but have swept all before them with wins over Cardiff Met, Pontyclun and Whitland.

The match will mark the last of the league fixtures until after next month’s Super Cup first round fixtures, and the team, which was only set up this summer, has been continuing their rigorous training regime this week to ensure they go into the break with another steady win behind them.

Head coach, Nick Edwards, commented: “We couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season from the team. From the first training session back in August, the girls have all been proud to be playing as a Swansea RFC team and have worn their Whites jerseys with pride at every match.

“We’ve seen some great performances on the pitch and it’s been encouraging to see how much they’ve developed as a squad since we all first got together over the summer. It’s a privilege for us to be able to promote women’s rugby under The Whites’ name, and the support we’ve had from both the club and our supporters has not gone unnoticed by the girls on match days.”

Caernarfon will be no easy task, having won three of their last four matches and SWRFC expect them to be back to their full form this week after a home defeat to Pontyclun last week.

Ffion Bowen is the club’s top try scorer with seven in three matches, Beth Preece has slotted 22 conversions in three games, and with 15 Swansea players having got onto the scoresheet with tries in the last three games, there is sure to be some attractive rugby on offer. Why not make a day of it with the Swansea RFC clubhouse putting on their renowned carvery?!
