Rob Howley’s men go in search of their first victory in 11 matches against the Wallabies at the Principality Stadium. Wales pushed the All Blacks all the way in their three-match summer Test series before Australia became the world champions’ latest victims in the Rugby Championship.
Michael Cheika’s men have only won three of their 10 Test matches this year. And Webb is determined to show the improvements Wales have made and break the Aussie’s firm grip on the fixture.
He said: “There have been plenty of opportunities against Australia, but that’s for you guys to talk about – the narrow losses – we certainly haven’t been thinking about it these last two weeks. We have come together, it is a very happy camp and training has been intense. We are just going to concentrate on ourselves.
“We have learnt from our tour to New Zealand. We talked about what we needed to do better. We know what we need to do, and we know we need to play for 80 minutes.
“They had a tremendous Rugby Championship, obviously if you take New Zealand out of the equation, they pretty much won it. We know how dangerous they are – some of the individuals they’ve got in their team, they can create stuff from anywhere on the pitch.
“We need to be alert for the full 80 minutes and we’re looking forward to Saturday.”
Webb could partner two of his Ospreys team-mates at half-back. Dan Biggar will be hopeful of holding on to his number 10 jersey, but he has a new challenger in regional rival Sam Davies. Davies could become the 14th player to follow in his father’s footsteps and gain an international cap.
Gareth Anscombe has also staked his claim in training, and Webb reckons Wales will be well equipped whoever earns selection.
He said: “Dan is a world-class international 10. He showed that at the World Cup and on the summer tour. He’s on top of his game. And you’ve got Sam, who is coming up and in form. And Gareth Anscombe, who has been on form for the Blues. There are three great 10s there.
“Sam’s running game and control has been pretty special.”
