Seibold, head coach of the South Sydney Rabbitohs, oversaw a drastic change of fortunes for one of rugby league’s most famous sides after taking over the reins last season. From finishing twelfth in 2017, the 44-year-old Queenslander steered the famous Souths to within a whisker of the Grand Final this year.
Now one of league’s most in-demand coaches – he was also part of a Queensland coaching set-up that won two State of Origin series – Seibold’s coaching career actually started with the South Wales Scorpions, followed by a spell with Celtic Crusaders. And his ties to the country don’t end there, having played alongside Wales assistant coach Shaun Edwards at London Broncos in the 1990s.
From a teaching background, Seibold is naturally a proponent of learning new methods, and is in the UK meeting with coaches from various sports and organisations. He has already gained valuable insights from time spent with NBA and AFL coaches, as well as benefiting from being mentored by the All Blacks’ Wayne Smith earlier in his career.
“We were very pleased to welcome Anthony to the WRU to share his experiences with our coaches,” said Dan Clements, Performance Coach Manager. “We’re really committed to providing inspiring and engaging learning opportunities for coaches within Wales, and this morning was a great chance for them to hear from a world-class practitioner and to collaborate with their peers.”
