Warren Gatland’s side open up the tournament against France on Friday, February 1 as they look to start with a bang in the French capital.
The 2019 championship will be Gatland’s 10th with Wales and last in charge and the experienced New Zealander has a 39-man squad to work with.
Leading them is Ospreys lock and Wales totem Jones who is captain of Gatland’s party.
“We’ve got strength and depth now. If we can get a good result in that first game we have a foot in the door,” said Jones. “We have a squad that will get healthier throughout the competition.
“We’d like to be part of a big occasion at the end of the competition and we feel we have the players to do it. We’re looking forward to the start of the tournament.”
Wales begin their Six Nations bid against France before travelling to Rome to face Italy.
In between those two fixtures, Gatland’s party will undertake a training camp in Nice instead of returning home to Wales as they look to replicate their preparations for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
“There have been a lot of romantic things said about Gats,” said Jones, who has played most of his career under the hugely successful head coach.
“There will be no cake and candles at the end of the Six Nations because it’s a big season. It’ll be business as usual for us,” said Jones.
“He’s been uncompromising in his approach and the biggest mark of respect you can give as a player is to perform for your coach.”
