Girls Day Out

The first match of the day saw Wales A defeat their Scottish counterparts 20-7. Number 8 Emily Steer crossed twice for the home side. The dry conditions allowed for an open game of rugby. Flanker Esther Eckley charged down a loosed kick from the visitors for scrum half Kerry Jenkins to score. After a reply from Scotland A, Nicola Evans made the initial break with the backs penetrating the Scottish defence. Evans was in support to cross the line for a comfortable win for the hosts.
The Welsh U16’s were next to take the stage against South East England. Michaela Reed crossed the line twice against the side that hasn’t conceded a try in two seasons. Hannah Szigetvari scored another two with Louisa Riddick adding one more. Three conversions from Reed gave the unbeaten Welsh U16’s an easy win, 31-10.
Director of Girls rugby, Richard Hodges commented, “I am delighted by the girls performance. They are a strong squad and we are hoping for great things from these girls.”

‘SAS – are you tough enough’ contestants Louise Rickard and Rimma Petlevannaia came head to head in the centre when Wales faced Scotland in their final match of the Six Nations.
Scotland’s Rimma Petlevannaia avenged her early exit from the show with a try-scoring pass before she crossed the line herself.
The Welsh pack scrummaged well but the strong Scottish defence prevented the backs from organising. No. 8 April Dent conducted from the base with scrum half Ronnie Owens consistently attacking.
The visitors dominated possession and scored five tries in a game that was constrained by a high penalty count. Flanker Angharad Phillips received her first cap for Wales. Before the full time whistle, fly half Awen Thomas kicked Wales’ only points when Scotland were penalised in front of the posts. The full time score was 3-31.
The squad will now gather for a training camp to prepare for the World Cup in Barcelona in May where Wales will face Australia in their opening match.
