The experienced centre played the full 80 minutes for the second straight week as he helped Warren Gatland’s side to their first success over the Wallabies since 2008.
Davies – a two-time British & Irish Lion – was understandably delighted at the result.
“We showed our defence was rock solid and we just had to make sure we stuck to the system Shaun Edwards has put in place and we were confident we would get the victory at the end,” he said.
“It was a battle up front and in the tackle area and we had to make sure that when we had the ball, we worked hard to keep it.
“There were few opportunities out there, but I think the composure we showed proved it was a pretty experienced display out there.
“It would have been sickening to draw, but what was great was there was no panic in the squad. We made sure we just built and got into an opportunity to get the victory and we executed that.
“Dan Biggar stepped up and slotted the penalty at the end. I think the character was massive to help us get the win.”
Gatland’s Wales have now won their last seven Test matches.
Next up is a meeting with Tonga at Principality Stadium on Saturday.
The Pacific Islanders warmed up for their visit to Cardiff with an entertaining 49-38 win over the French Barbarians in a non-capped international.
Wales will look to make it three from three this month against Tonga and Davies believes the squad is in fine fettle.
“Alun Wyn Jones’ point after Australia was we expect to win big games now,” said the Scarlets ace.
“We have strength in depth, confidence, and this is our stadium.
“Our record against Australia has not been good in the past, but it is a new batch of players coming through now and they do not have that hanging over them.
“I have played Australia 10 times before for Wales and have not beaten them once. It is good to get the victory over them, but the most important thing as a squad is we are building for something bigger.
“The win will be great for us going forward.”
Davies now wants Wales to keep building with Tonga in mind.
He added: “For us, it is about building and making sure we keep training like we have.
“The strength in depth and the standards we have are helping us on a Saturday and whoever is picked, as a
squad of 36 or however many, we will be preparing for a tough Test match.”
