Ospreys hooker Oliver Burrows will captain the side which contains two new caps in Dragons flanker Ollie Howard and centre Joe Hawkins. There are another six uncapped players on the bench.
The U18 International Series kicks off at Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch tomorrow, before switching to Paarl Gymnasium on Tuesday, with the final round of games to be held at Hugenote High School in Wellington on Saturday, August 17.
“This is a great opportunity for this group of players,” said Horsman. “ I’ve been impressed with the attitude of the entire squad on this trip and we’re very excited to see what this young group of players can achieve.
“It’s one of the youngest squads I’ve ever been involved with but the tournament gives great exposure to the players who have prepared extremely well for the three games we face.”
Wales team manager Lyn Howells said the team have prepared well, having played Western Province in a training match in ‘nightmare’ conditions.
“We potentially have eight new caps for the game against the Springboks, two of which are starting. We’ve selected a younger side than normal but hopefully we’ll match up against the Springboks,” he said.
“Ollie Burrows will captain the side. He has started all season and will be available again next season so this is a great opportunity for him,” added Howells.
