WALES 29 ITALY 19
(at the National Ground, Cardiff).
This match was played as part of a preliminary round of the World Cup, with Wales having already defeated the third country, Romania, in this Euro-Seeding group.
Having scored only one try in Bucharest, Wales did no better in this match as centre Nigel Davies went over, but the other 24-points came from the boot of Neil Jenkins, who dropped a goal and placed seven penalty goals.
Neil equalled his previous Welsh best of 24, scored against Canada two years earlier.
In this match Jenkins became the highest-ever Wales points scorer when he passed Paul Thorburn’s total of 304, scored in 29 tests – nine less than Thorburn played.
