The Irish opened their U20 Six Nations title defence with a 38-26 home win over Scotland while Wales were going down to a 17-7 defeat to the Italians in Colwyn Bay. “I hope we will have learned from last weekend but not dwelt too much on the game. We want a lot more possession on Friday night, we need to be more accurate and we need to minimise our errors when we have the ball in hand,” said Morgan.
“Ireland won the Grand Slam last year and are always hard to play against in Ireland. We are looking forward to going there and getting a result.”
Morgan was in the Welsh side that finished one place above the Irish at last year’s World Rugby Junior Championships in Argentina, a campaign that included a Welsh win over New Zealand, Argentina and Fiji, and the Scarlets flanker wants his players to use the Six Nations to build towards this summer’s tournament in Italy, where they are in a Pool with Australia, New Zealand a Georgia.
“The players will grow in confidence having got their first cap under their belt. You can often learn more from a defeat and it is important we don’t dwell on that one result for too long because it is going to be a long campaign,” said Morgan.
“The Italians were very physical, but they only scored one try in the game and there was only a 10 point gap at the end. Their ball retention was very good and we couldn’t take it away from them.”
