Watkins Flies Out

Wales team manager Alan Phillips has confirmed Llanelli centre Matthew Watkins will join the tour squad at their New Zealand camp.
Wales are preparing for their two-match series against Ausralia and the All Blacks and Watkins will fly out on Saturday at 4.15pm from Heathrow to replace Bridgend Captain Gareth Thomas, who has been unable to travel for personal reasons.

Matthew Jason Watkins was called up to the Wales squad for this season’s Royal Bank of Scotland Six Nations tournament after impressing in the Llanelli midfield and playing a major role in them reaching the quarter-finals of the Heineken Cup. Joined the Scarlets from Newport last summer after making around 125 appearances for the Gwent club. Played at scrum half until switching to the centre as a 13-year-old, the Oakdale Comprehensive product has risen through the system after first being capped at under 18 level. A keen golfer, he has represented Wales at three World Series Sevens tournaments and appeared in eight under-21 internationals. Made his Wales A debut against Argentina last season and went on to win five more A caps.
