12/12/1908 WALES 9 AUSTRALIA 6 At Cardiff.

“Who beat the Walla-walla-bies, but good old Sospan Fach” was sung after Llanelli had defeated Dr Moran’s side at Stradey Park. Australia won the Olympic Rugby gold medal before leaving for home.

26/11/1927 WALES 8 AUSTRALIA 18 At Cardiff.

The match was against New South Wales but was given full Australia status in 1986!

Former Scotland wing ‘Johnny’ Wallace skippered the Waratahs.

20/12/1947 WALES 6 AUSTRALIA 0 At Cardiff.

Aussie forward Doug Keller played for Scotland against Wales 15 months later.

4/1/1958 WALES 9 AUSTRALIA 3 At Cardiff.

Carwyn James made his Wales debut, coming in for the injured Cliff Morgan.

The Wallabies became the first touring team to lose all their international matches on the tour.

Prop Nick Shehadie was later Lord Mayor of Sydney and then was knighted.

3/12/1966 WALES 11 AUSTRALIA 14 At Cardiff.

This was the first home defeat for Wales in three years and the first time that Australia had beaten Wales. Barry John and Gerald Davies made their debuts.

21/6/1969 AUSTRALIA 16 WALES 19 At Sydney.

Gerald Davies had been switched to the wing on this tour and his try in the mud confirmed it was a correct move.

10/11/ 1973 WALES 24 AUSTRALIA 0 At Cardiff.

Gerald Davies was the only survivor from the defeat by Australia in 1966.

This was the first occasion in seven meetings that the margin of victory was more than six points.

20/12/1975 WALES 28 AUSTRALIA 3 At Cardiff.

The hat-trick of tries by wing JJ Williams was only the second by a Welsh player since WW2.

Wales led the series by 6-1 as the 1927 match had not then been declared as a test by Australia.

11/6/1978 AUSTRALIA 18 WALES 8 At Brisbane.

17/6/1978 AUSTRALIA 19 WALES 17 At Sydney.

JPR Williams was selected at flanker. Graham Price had his jaw broken by a punch from Steve Finnane. Gerald Davies skippered the side in his last appearance for Wales.

5/12/1981 WALES 18 AUSTRALIA 13 At Cardiff.

Richard Moriarty’s debut try was the only touchdown against the Wallabies in seven tour matches in Wales.

24/11/1984 WALES 9 AUSTRALIA 28 At Cardiff.

The Wallabies raced to the highest score by a touring team against Wales in Wales.

David Bishop crossed for a try in his one and only appearance and that was the only try against Australia in their four tour tests. Mark Ella scored tries in every one of those tests.

18/6/1987 WALES 22 AUSTRALIA 21 At Rotorua. World Cup-3rd place play-off.

An injury-time touchline conversion by Paul Thorburn won the match for Wales.

Australia had played with 14 men after four minutes when David Codey was dismissed.

Teenager Richard Webster made his debut in place of the injured Richie Collins.

21/7/1991 AUSTRALIA 63 WALES 6 At Brisbane.

This was the heaviest defeat since the very first international against England in 1881.

Skipper Paul Thorburn announcement his retirement after the match. There were losses also to NSW 71-8 (13 tries) and Queensland (35-24).

12/10/1991 WALES 3 AUSTRALIA 38 At Cardiff. World Cup Group match.

This was the heaviest home defeat inflicted on Wales in 110 years of international rugby.

Wales conceded six tries in Cardiff for only the second time (v Fiji 1964).

Australia went on to win the World Cup.

21/11/1992 WALES 6 AUSTRALIA 23 At Cardiff.

8/6/1996 AUSTRALIA 56 WALES 25 At Brisbane.

Jonathan Humphreys led Wales on a tour that also saw defeats against ACT (69-30), NSW (27-20) and Australia B (51-41).

22/6/1996 AUSTRALIA 42 WALES 3 At Sydney.

1/12/1996 WALES 19 AUSTRALIA 28 At Cardiff.

David Campese played his 101st and final Test having scored a world record 64 tries.

Jonathan Davies was recalled after eight years and 67 tests. David Young also returned from Rugby League after a gap of 61 tests.

23/10/1999 WALES 9 AUSTRALIA 24 At Cardiff. World Cup Quarter-Final.

John Eales and his team went on to win the World Cup.

25/11/2001 WALES 13 AUSTRALIA 21 At Cardiff.

Wales prevented Australia from scoring a try for the first time since 1975. Full back Matthew Burke landed seven penalty goals.

In the fortnight leading up to this match, Australia had lost to England and France, but defeated the Barbarians at Cardiff four days later.
