CAN-NUKED !!! – by Jonathan Morgan
Wales delved deep and produced a strong display against a Canuck side that failed to ignite. Five tries scored from all positions on the paddock is encouraging, but we still made too many basic errors which will be punished by better sides. Two yellow cards will also be a concern, although both were slightly harsh. Overall a better start than many Welsh fans feared, with room for improvement. –

I thought Wales played really well today. For once our forwards went well recycling good ball quickly. I think the welsh backline, if it clicks is just as good as any in the tournament. In Iestyn Harris, Ceri Sweeney and Gareth Cooper we have now got game breakers who will terrorise defenses. I was a little concerned with our line out, too many loose throw ins. All in all a very good performance and now we can build from here. Well-done lads – Gary Thomas

After a nervous start for player and viewer alike, Wales secured an easy win over an inferior Canadian 15. There were occasional flashes of brilliance from the backs and glimpses that this tournament might see Iestyn Harries finally come of age in the union code, but the lack of continuity and the large number of unforced errors will cause sleepless nights in a good few fans.

Jonathan Harris

Better than expected, though far too many penalties conceded and handing errors. The two yellow cards were perhaps a bit tough, though we do seem to struggle a bit with discipline at times.
Iestyn Harris made the difference in the backs, though all played reasonably well – what a difference it makes to have quick ball from flyhalf and onwards! Look out for the other banana skins guys!

DRAGON POWER INCINERATES CANADA – by John Tran

Wales began their Rugby World Cup adventure with a solid 41-10 thumping of Canada at Telstra Dome, Melbourne, to be not only level with the All Blacks in Pool D, but have chalked up a bonus point to boot.
Canada couldn’t match the power of the Welsh and with good reason – the Red Dragons had a hand with 5 tries to the Canucks’ only try.
For an Australian supporting the Welsh, I’d say that this match deserves a 10 out of 10 for quality and the same goes for their play and calculating efficiency.
It’s not easy to choose who is the best for Wales, but I believe that all of them play extremely well and they gave their opponents a tough lesson in meddling with a side who provide a free-flowing and entertaining piece of rugby.
All in all, it was a stunning performance. Congrats to the Welsh and we’ll see them again next time when they front up to rugby disappointments Tonga and Italy – both in Canberra of course!

The Welsh team was as nervous as the Welsh fans to start. Then, as they realised we were the better side, they took control and never looked like losing. Well done lads for settling the fans nerves and lets go on to the next match with confidence. Gavin henson should of gone to Australia, as Kevin needs more time to get back to being 100% which is what we have to be to qualify to the quarter finals.

We must learn to retain the ball and not loose it in contact. We still do not have a No 2 to throw- in at the line-out. Possession is the name of the game. We have very few top class players. As for class, it’s about time that we recognised Iestyn Harries. He along with Dafydd Jones and Gareth Thomas were outstanding. Sidoli also showed what he can do when he came on late in the game. As for most of the players, they do not rank with England’s players all of which I am sad to say are top-class. Good luck to them. They are true professionals.
