Wales face the prospect of a Tongan backlash after the South Sea Island side went down 36-12 to Italy, but the coach was glad of the chance to see his next opponents in action.
“We were lucky that everyone came through so well physically,” said Hansen. “There were the usual bumps and bruises, but nothing significant enough to rule anyone out of contention for the Tongan match.
“And we are fortunate to have been able to watch Tonga play against Italy. We needed to get a line on them as we don’t have any current analysis.
“There was a huge value in seeing them play before Sunday. I expect there will be some changes in personnel when we meet them, but their style won’t change that much.
“Preparations are going well. Recovery after Canada was important so we had a quiet day on Monday and travelled back to Canberra.
“The fact that we have no significant injury worries is a reflection of the preparation of the players and the support of the team’s medical staff.
“Our full team training on Wednesday was a good outing, and we put in a good effort on our combinations and set plays.
“We know they are big, strong and athletic, so we expect a physical game.”
