“We have achieved our initial goal for the season – qualifying for the Heineken Cup – and now we really do not have anything to lose and everything to gain over the final two rounds of the Celtic League,” said Ruddock.

“The Dragons are not in pole position, we are sitting on the rails behind the leaders, so the pressure is all on Ulster and The Scarlets.
“That said, we will go flat out over the last two rounds of the competition and you could say we have a new goal – to bring the Celtic League title to Gwent.
“We have won more games than either Ulster or Llanelli Scarlets – 15 to their 14 – but we have not been picking up the same number of bonus points and that has disadvantaged us a bit.
“We will just try to keep on winning because the rest is out of our hands but, if there are any slips from those above us, we must make sure we take advantage.”
The Borders are still in with a Heineken Cup shout – they are four points adrift of Glasgow Rugby – and Ruddock is taking nothing for granted.
“If we have had a weakness this season it has been playing against teams below us in the table,” he said. “But this is probably the last real chance for The Borders to qualify for the Heineken Cup and they will be really fired up.

“They only lost by four points to Ulster and they won’t want to let themselves down over the final few rounds – they will be a huge challenge.
“We had a couple of sticky moments against Connacht but we dug deep, battled our way through and finished strongly to pick up a bonus point.”
