Scotland coach, the former Glamorgan Wanderers scrum half Eamonn John, will have some rethinking to do after his side fell to their second home defeat this year, having lost 7-3 to Italy earlier this month. Neath prop Craig Mitchell will Wales for the first time in his 11th match at all levels for his country and a first-half try by speedy Llanelli right wing Darren Daniel took the visitors out in front.

It was ten minutes from time when Wales clinched the match with Daniel again involved and the touchdown going to replacement centre Jonathan Spratt of Neath. A conversion was kicked by fly half Gareth Williams-Davies, a former Wales Schools cap, who recently appeared for Rumney in the Konica Minolta Cup.

This was the first of five internationals leading up to the 37th IRB U19 World Cup to be held in Durban, South Africa April 01-17. Following England, Wales meet Italy on February 11 at Parabagio; France in Tarbes on February 25 and Ireland at Ebbw Vale on March 04.
