More than 9,000 tickets have already been sold for a game that will be a revenge mission for Dwayne Peel’s side after their 34-9 defeat in Swansea a month ago. It will also be a shot at redemption after defeat at home in their last game in the EPCR Challenge Cup against Georgian side Black Lion.
But equally important will be the chance for the Scarlets fans to show their appreciation for former Walee sigh head specialist Samson Lee, who this month was forced to hang up his boots. He has been given the chance to lead out the team on derby day and Peel couldn’t be happier.
“I didn’t really know Samson before I returned to the club as a coach, but he’s been a fantastic servant and a wonderful ambassador for the club,” said Peel.
“He can be proud of what he’s achieved on the field throughout his career. I hope he will get the reception he deserves because he is a champion bloke.
“He has driven the standards even when he has been injured and commands huge respect among the players. He’s so proud to have been a Scarlet and he will be a massive loss for us.”
The 31-year-old Lee has not featured for Scarlets since suffering an injury on the training ground while the Welsh region were on URC duty in South Africa in March 2022. He did return to the field for Llandovery in the Welsh Premiership in May of this year but was unable to make sufficient progress in his recovery thereafter.
After an injury-rehabilitation process which has spanned almost two years, Lee was forced to call time on his 12-year professional career. He made 164 appearances for the Scarlets.
